When should I replace the HEPA filter?

If you run the unit overnight 8+ hours daily through winter, plan on replacement every 6 months. Light use (3–4 hours/day, summer-only): 12 months. Visible greying or yellowing of the filter media and a noticeable drop in airflow on the same fan speed are the practical signals — we check both during a service visit.
Do I actually need an air purifier in Pune?
If you live near Diwali-heavy localities, in a high-traffic corridor, or have someone in the household with asthma/allergies, yes — Pune AQI from Oct through Jan regularly enters the 'unhealthy' band (PM2.5 over 100 µg/m³) and a HEPA purifier in the bedroom makes the air measurably cleaner where you spend the most hours. How do I choose the right air purifier — what does CADR mean?
CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate, in m³/hr or CFM) tells you how fast the unit cleans a given volume of air. The rule of thumb: pick a unit whose CADR is roughly 5× your room volume (L × W × H, in m³). A typical Pune master bedroom of 12 m² × 3 m height = 36 m³, so CADR ≥ 180 m³/hr. Budget purifiers under-spec CADR and over-spec the room-size claim. HEPA grade should be H13 or H14 for true HEPA — anything else (HEPA-style, HEPA-type) is marketing language. We'll pre-check before you buy if you share the room size and shortlist.
My purifier's airflow has gone weak even with a new filter. What's wrong?
Three common causes: (1) the pre-filter (the washable mesh layer in front of the HEPA) is clogged with hair and dust — most people never wash it; (2) the motor bearings are dry and the fan is spinning slower than rated — a service fixes this; (3) the airflow sensor or speed-control PCB has drifted — the unit thinks it's running at high speed but isn't.
